Welcome to Sunrise Christian School Whyalla

Partnering with families and the community to see students in Whyalla shine.

Henry, Whyalla

Meet Henry Engelbrecht, our School Principal.

I warmly welcome you to Sunrise Christian School Whyalla. Thank you for taking the time to seek out our school, we are confident that you will love what you find here.

I am a passionate educator and along with our wonderful staff we aim to provide a warm and welcoming family experience that encourages all our students to achieve their best. Our school provides a diverse learning experience which smoothly transitions them from the Early Learning Centre into primary school.

We are constantly striving to be innovative and progressive, and firmly believe in nurturing children to reveal the best of their God given talents. Supporting them and providing continual opportunities at every stage of their school life.

I would love to invite you to come in for morning tea and the opportunity to get to know us and our school, and how we can partner with you in your child’s development.

Together we shine

Kitchen Garden Program

Sunrise Christian School Whyalla offers a Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation program which is unique in the area. The Program is implemented with a whole-school approach, engaging the entire school community whilst integrating with the curriculum.

The program gives students the opportunity to plant, grow, cultivate, harvest and then prepare seasonal vegetables. It emphasises the flavours as well as the health benefits of fresh, seasonal, delicious food. Students are able to create dishes which reflect Australian Dietary Guidelines with the produce they grew themselves. The program empowers Kitchen educators to emphasise balance and moderation, and endorse the concept of preparing fruit-based desserts as a ‘sometimes-only’ option.

Pleasurable food education is designed to be fully integrated into the curriculum and learning framework as it offers infinite possibilities to reinforce literacy, numeracy, science, cultural studies and all aspects of environmental sustainability. It also delivers observable social benefits to all children, including those with special needs.

Our School food education encourages critical thinking, teamwork, an understanding of cause and effect, and increased levels of observation. Students develop life skills in the areas of gardening, cooking, meal preparation, nutrition, healthy habits, hygiene etc.

Sunrise Christian School Whyalla provides an educational program which facilitates individual development in an encouraging and family-oriented environment.

From the ELC to year seven, every student is given the opportunity to gain the knowledge, skills and confidence necessary for the transition to secondary and tertiary education, and achieve their true potential in the wider world.

We approach all the areas of learning, as set in the Australian Curriculum, with the aim of successfully educating your son or daughter to achieve personal excellence and leadership attributes in order to contribute meaningfully towards the society and local community they are a part of.

We encourage our teachers to be a collaborative extension of your home and make the most of those ‘teachable moments’: to train and reinforce right behaviour, and to instil a healthy and rounded worldview.

School Life

We provide a range of sports for your child to try out and take part in, with soccer and basketball being amongst our most popular. Your child may also participate in a number of inter-school events including athletics carnivals and Pedal Prix, allowing them to excel.

We offer a range of musical tuition options which are run by qualified and skilled teachers, all of whom are passionate about their discipline. Piano and guitar are commonly chosen by students and fine musical talent is showcased at school assemblies and at music concerts held throughout the year.

Camps and Excursions

All year levels are involved with excursions throughout the year and all upper primary classes go on a 2 or 3-day camp. Our grade 7 trip to Canberra is offered as part of the Middle School Experience. The students that have the opportunity to partake in this memorable and exciting trip to Canberra, say it's a highlight of their year.

School APP

Everyone recognises the need for parents to quickly access the latest school information, and the most efficient way to do this is via a dedicated school app. Our School app has been specifically designed to keep parents in touch with vital school communication that’s relevant to you and your family. Once enrolled we will guide you through accessing and using our school app.

We understand that many children will need care due to the unavoidable work and/or study commitments of parents, we therefore provide Out of School Hours Care services. Our OSHC programme is an extension of the school and therefore an extension of the home. It supports parents and the school community by offering Christ-centred care, that builds upon the nurturing, trusting relationship between staff, parents and children, in a safe, friendly environment. Please contact us for more information.

Sunrise Christian School Whyalla partners with Alinta Uniforms, to provide high quality, long-lasting uniforms. To make sure the uniform fits before you purchase it, there is a uniform shop on site where you can try on the uniform before making an online purchase.
