‘Together we shine’ is one of the positioning phrases you will see in some of the marketing we do as Sunrise Christian School across South Australia. This is not only a slogan to elicit positive interest, but it is a belief that together we can make a difference. The high priority we put on relationship building facilitates our students to really ‘shine’ as individuals in the safe environment and community that is the Sunrise family. It is my prayer as the principal here in Whyalla, that we see each child flourish and be the best they can be. Taking ownership of the plan God has for them. As God says in Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
What a rich community life we enjoy at Sunrise Christian School Whyalla. This was beautifully displayed at our 10-year anniversary. It was great to see the support of so many, including Kym Golding (CEO of Adelaide Christian Schools), along with other Sunrise representatives, and past staff, who have played a part in our rich history. What a way to launch into a bright future with our Middle School development!
We also welcomed our Middle School Coordinator, Ryan Davis to the team. He has been excited to meet the Year 6 & 7s, who will form the first stage of the Middle School in 2020. This year, Ryan will delve into the exciting realm of Middle School and put some ‘meat around the bones’ of the already established Middle School framework. We are thankful for our partnership with Temple Christian College (our partner school in Adelaide), who will support us in developing meaningful approaches.

At Sunrise, the Middle Years program will provide enriching and relevant learning opportunities. This will be achieved through explicit teaching methods to enhance learning. Explicit teaching will be a great strength, with clear building blocks delivered through exciting programs. Students will comprehend the big picture of subject content, to develop key understandings and skills to perform at a high standard. There will be integrated opportunities between learning areas such as STEAM (Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Art and Maths), Home Economics, Textiles and Media Arts. This will be beneficial for our context here in Whyalla as we develop informed and influential young citizens.
Students will enjoy modern facilities, with structured teaching to cover the essentials of The Australia Curriculum in the Middle Years. Learning will be engaging, interactive and hands-on. There will be a spacious learning environment, science lab, and technology areas.
We are confident that the Middle School will be a dynamic contribution to the existing school community to carry through our Biblically-based education to set students up for success to achieve academically, socially and spiritually.
