Our History
Sunrise Christian School, Marion, initially started as Maranatha Assembly and School. In 2002, Sunrise was asked to take over the school, becoming Sunrise Christian School Marion. Sunrise Marion faithfully serves the local Christian community and is continuing to grow.
In January 2019, Sunrise Christian School and Temple Christian College partnered together to provide a unique opportunity for middle school students (Years 7 to 9) at Sunrise Marion. As part of this partnership, middle school students access Temple Christian College experiences within the heart of their primary school before they transition to Temple Christian College Mile End to complete their Year 10 to 12 studies.
Sunrise Christian School is a work that God began over 45 years ago. While we celebrate all that has contributed to establishing a solid foundation, we remain eagerly excited to uncover the more remarkable achievements that lie ahead as we develop our partnership with Temple Christian College.
Today, the school is led by the principal, Henry Engelbrecht, with governance, oversight and spiritual guidance entrusted to Adelaide Christian Schools (ACS), an incorporated association that governs several schools, including Temple Christian College, Sunrise Christian School – Whyalla, Adelaide Christian Schools Early Learning Centres, Discovery Christian College in Queensland, as well as international schools, Sunrise Bethel and Edai Town Christian Schools in Papua New Guinea.
In May 2022, Sunrise Christian School, Marion, opened its new architecturally designed Early Learning Centre (ELC). The ELC is part of a 4.5-million-dollar facility upgrade project. Sunrise Marion now offers education from ELC to Grade 9.
Meet Sunrise Marion Principal,
Mr Henry EngelbrechtI warmly welcome you to Sunrise Christian School, Marion. Thank you for taking the time to seek out our school. We are confident that you will love what you find here.
I am a passionate educator, and along with our outstanding staff, we aim to provide a warm and welcoming family experience that encourages all our students to achieve their best. In addition, our school offers a diverse learning experience that smoothly transitions our students from ELC into Primary School and from Primary School into Middle School.
We are constantly striving to be innovative and progressive and firmly believe in nurturing children to reveal the best of their God-given talents by supporting them and providing continual opportunities at every stage of their school life.
I would love to invite you to come in for morning tea and the opportunity to get to know our school and us. But, more than that, we would love to show you how to partner with your family in your child's development.
Meet our ELC Director, Mrs Linda Engelbrecht
Hello families! My name is Linda Engelbrecht, and I am pleased to lead the Sunrise Marion Early Learning Centre.
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Junior Primary and Early Childhood Education and have taught for 20 years. For 11 of those years, I have been at Sunrise.
Apart from teaching, I have acted as the Diverse Education Coordinator in Whyalla. My passion is to support all children in their learning and growing.
I want all children to learn about their God-given purpose and grow in their knowledge of God to become who He created them to be. At our ELC, we honour the parents as the first educators, and through our support and education, we become an extension of each child's home. We support children to learn in an inspiring, creative, imaginative and fun environment.
We invite you to come in for morning tea and the opportunity to get to know our school and us. But, more than that, we would love to show you how to partner with your family in your child's development.
