Meet Sunrise Whyalla Principal, Mrs Cindy Millwood
I am pleased to welcome you to Sunrise Christian School Whyalla – a truly fantastic school making a real difference in the lives of students, their families, and the community here on the Eyre Peninsula. I am sure that you will love what you see here.
At the heart of Sunrise Christian School is a desire to see every student flourish as they discover their God-given gifts and abilities and how they can use those traits to impact the world in which they live positively.
At Sunrise, we believe our purpose is to educate hearts and minds – meaning that character development is as important to us as academic achievement. Our students learn how to live out a life of love as they follow the Biblical teaching of Jesus Christ to ‘love one another, as I have loved you’.
This is a caring and diverse community where all people are welcome. Our students are supported to discover who God has made them to be and to respect the dignity and value of all people. We have created a strong commitment to student well-being, supporting our students with programs and initiatives to help them navigate difficult moments and reach their full potential.
Learning should be rigorous and engaging for all students. Our teachers explicitly deliver the skills and knowledge that students need for success, then allow opportunities for the students to explore, question, problem-solve and collaborate with peers. This creates deep learning that will enable our students to become lifelong learners with the adaptable skills to thrive in the 21st century.
I encourage you to book a principal’s tour and see our outstanding students, teachers, and state-of-the-art facilities. I genuinely believe you will feel at home in our school and be excited to join our vibrant community.
God bless,
Cindy Millwood.
Our History
In 2010 Ps Ted Evans the Pastor of Whyalla AOG and Chair of Whyalla Christian School approached Sunrise to seek help to stabilise and grow the school. It was agreed after a short time that Sunrise would take ownership of the school and help maintain a Christian School in the town. The school has grown steadily and is now thriving in the now financially rejuvenated city of Whyalla. A year later, Sunrise Whyalla added an Early Learning Centre for 3-5 year-olds. Director Nicole Fabian still runs the ELC and shares her knowledge with Sunrise families today.
Today, the school is led by the principal, Daniel Hamilton with governance, oversight and spiritual guidance entrusted to Adelaide Christian Schools (ACS), an incorporated association that governs several schools including Temple Christian College, Sunrise Christian Schools, Adelaide Christian Schools Early Learning Centres, Discovery Christian College, Queensland, as well as international schools, Faith Christian College South Carolina, USA, and Sunrise Bethel and Edai Town Christian Schools in Papua New Guinea.
