Grade 4 & 5 Highlights

In primary school, children learn core subjects such as English, Mathematics, and Science as well as specialist subjects such as art, drama, physical education, health, music, and language.

Grades 4 and 5 are exciting and memorable years filled with engaging learning experiences both inside and outside the classroom. Students enjoy a range of opportunities including a three-day camp, exciting excursions and incursions that enrich classroom learning, and participation in our annual Athletics Carnival and Book Week celebrations.

Transition visits to Temple Christian College in Mile End begin in Grade 4 and continue through upper primary. As part of our Upper Primary Educational and Secondary School Programs, your child will take part in a number of interactive excursions and educational intensives at Temple Christian College. The pathway from Sunrise to Temple is guaranteed for Christian families who submit the Temple Christian College Application for Enrolment Form at the appropriate time.

Grade 5 is a year of growing independence, leadership and responsibility. One of the highlights is our Buddy Program, where Grade 5 students are paired with children in the Early Learning Centre. These special relationships are enjoyed by both groups, with students developing leadership skills, confidence and a strong sense of community.

Students in Grade 4 and 5 take part in our Kitchen Garden program, where they learn valuable skills in growing, harvesting and preparing fresh produce while developing an appreciation for healthy living and sustainability. The garden is also used to foster emotional and physical wellbeing and to provide hands-on learning.

We believe learning extends beyond the classroom, providing students with meaningful experiences that build confidence, independence and lasting friendships.

Grade 6

Grade 6 is a significant year as students prepare for the transition to secondary school while embracing opportunities to grow as confident, capable and responsible leaders. As the senior students of the school, they lead by example, continuing their special Buddy Program with younger students and serving as positive role models within the Sunrise community. Students are also presented with their Grade 6 jackets and a Bible, recognising this important milestone and encouraging them as they continue their faith journey.

A key feature of the year is the Stewardship Program, where students learn practical money management skills through the biblical principles found in the Parable of the Talents, encouraging wise decision-making and responsible stewardship.

One of the highlights of the year is the unforgettable Kangaroo Island camp, where students enjoy unique outdoor experiences, build resilience and strengthen friendships in a stunning natural environment.

To support a smooth transition to high school, students participate in a Year 7 Transition Visit to Temple Christian College, Mile End, to become familiar with the school environment, teachers, and the expectations of secondary school.

The year concludes with a range of special graduation events, including a memorable Graduation Dinner, where students celebrate their achievements, reflect on their primary school journey and look forward to the exciting opportunities ahead.

By the end of Grade 6, students leave Sunrise Paradise equipped with the knowledge, skills, confidence and strong Christian values needed to thrive in high school. They are well prepared for the next stage of their educational journey and ready to embrace the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead.
